The Himalayan Cedar, known in Latin as Cedrus deodara is a hardy and frost-tolerant tree well loved by both shamanistic and deity worshipping peoples alike on the Asian continent back into measureless antiquity.

The name "deodar" is derived from modern Indian language derivatives of the Sanskrit name 'devdar', meaning "timber of the gods".

Western Himalayan Cedar, or Deodar in Hindi. In Sanskrit it is named devdar. In Chinese it is known as Xue Song.
