Kamakura Buddha Statue - Bronze Finish.

Cast in solid hydrostone (finely ground stone), 13 inches high. Serene Buddha seated in the lotus posture with his hands forming the Dhyani Mudra, the gesture of meditation, sculpted after the Kamakura Buddha, a statue of Amida Buddha, which stands on the grounds of Kotokuin Temple near Kamakura in Japan.

Not for outdoor use unless protected from the direct impact of the elements. Made in USA.

The Daibutsu, or Amida Buddha, is the focus of Pure Land Buddhism, originating in China. The Pure Land sect gained prominence in Japan in the 12th century and remains very popular today. The central teaching is that devotion to Amida Buddha, expressed through mantras and sincerity of heart, will take the practitioner to the Pure Land or "Western Paradise" after death - a pleasant realm from which it is easy to attain nirvana.
